At Sunshine Coast Active safety is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we proudly support the Royal Life Saving Keep Watch program, a initiative dedicated to preventing drowning in young children, particularly those under five years old.
The core message is straightforward: children under five must remain within arm’s reach of an actively supervising adult whenever they are in, on, or around the water.
What Does Active Supervision Really Mean?
Active supervision goes beyond just being in the same pool area. It means:
Eyes On
Giving your child your complete, uninterrupted attention, putting phones and distractions away while they are in or near the water.
Hands On
Remaining within arm's reach at all times so you can respond instantly if they slip or get into difficulty.
Constant Awareness
Watching your child continuously, as drowning in young children happens quickly and silently.
A Shared Responsibility for Pool Safety
Our professional lifeguards are continuously scanning the pools and are highly trained to respond in an emergency. However, lifeguards do not replace active parental or carer supervision.
Even toddlers who seem confident in the water or are wearing flotation aids can lose their balance or panic in a split second. If you have a child under five at the pool: get in with them, stay close, and keep watch.
