At Coolum Aquatic Centre, we believe that water safety and education don't just happen in the pool they start in the community. That’s why our Learn to Swim Manager, Kylah, has been stepping out of the centre to connect with local families beyond the water’s edge.
As part of our ongoing community outreach, Kylah has been visiting local mothers’ groups to speak directly with new and expecting parents. The focus of these visits is to start the conversation about water safety early, discussing the benefits of infant swimming and explaining why it is never too early to start building a positive, lifelong relationship with the water.
For many new parents, the thought of bringing a baby into the pool can be daunting. These community visits provide a relaxed space to chat about the importance of introducing babies to the water in a safe and supportive environment. Kylah is on hand to answer parents’ questions, ease any concerns, and explain exactly what to expect from our popular Splashtime classes.
One of our most memorable recent visits was with the wonderful Raising Mamas community on the Sunshine Coast. Raising Mamas is a fantastic local initiative that brings mums and babies together to build vital connections, share their parenting experiences, and hear from local professionals.
Reflecting on the visit, Kylah shared how rewarding the experience has been:
"It’s been so lovely getting out into the community and meeting families where they are. These conversations give us a great opportunity to talk about water safety, answer questions, and help parents feel more confident when it comes to introducing their little ones to the water."
Of course, the highlight of the day was getting to meet all the adorable babies (including one particularly little cutie who stole our hearts).
